ACAI SUPER fruit
Modern diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and allergies are on the rise, and rising stress levels are driving people to seek food from untouched areas of the Earth, away from the industrialized, polluted environment, to help us stay healthy. This way acaï (Euterpe oleracea) – the delicious, nutrient-rich berry came into the limelight and within a short period of time, it gained great popularity and was also called the “King of Superfruits.”
Almost half of the diet of some Amazonian tribes consists of this fruit, which grows on the tops of palm trees more than 25 meters high and is harvested twice a year. It has a dark lilac color, an almost regular spherical shape and consists of berries slightly smaller than grapes. Many compare its taste to the combination of red wine and chocolate.
Acai it is extremely rich in antioxidants and contains vitamins B1, B2, C and E, as well as iron, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, niacin and various amino acids. It has a high fiber content and at the same time low sugar content. Within 24 hours of harvesting, it loses most of its nutritional value, so to prevent this, acaï is immediately processed and can be consumed in the form of pulp or juice.
The natives used acaï to treat several problems such as skin diseases, as an antipyretic, against menstrual pain and indigestion. But it has also been used for diabetes, heart disease and various cancers. Acaï continues to be popular among people participating in weight loss programs, and many people share their experiences on the Internet. Although research is still in its early stages, scientists are constantly trying to support acaï research, focusing primarily on its high antioxidant content.
According to the principles of organic farming and sustainable development, acaï cultivation in the jungle should remain where it is. Therefore, the highest quality acaï products can only come from organic farms. These farms take care not to deplete the soil by using pesticides, chemicals or genetic engineering.
Do you know the history of Acaï?
Legend has it that once upon a time, an Indian tribe had to face drought and famine for a long time. Their leader ordered every newborn child to be killed to stop the population from growing. But soon his own daughter Iaca gave birth to a wonderful, beautiful baby girl. But her father’s law also affected her, and her child was murdered. Iaca cried for 3 days and 3 nights until one night she suddenly heard a baby crying.
She followed the sound and finally saw her daughter in the moonlight under a palm tree. She went to her and hugged her, but the baby disappeared and Iaca died in her sadness. The next morning her father found her with her arms around the palm tree, smiling and holding her hands up under the tree. The chieftain looked up and saw the branches covered with elderberries. He immediately ordered them to be harvested, and the fruit turned out to be delicious and nutritious, and the tribe was saved from starvation. The chief named the fruit after his daughter Iaca, read conversely, acaï. Hence its second name – “weeping fruit”.
