#Coenzyme #Q10 #worth
coenzyme q10 proves its effects in dermatology precisely starting from its essential role in the mitochondria, in the production of ATP.
At the same time, it works as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals (unstable molecules, which are formed when we expose ourselves to a multitude of factors, including UV radiation or cigarette smoke) and reducing oxidative stress. Important factor in skin aging and cell damage.
Its benefits for the skin, supported by scientific evidence:
1. Combating skin aging. By its effect of neutralizing free radicals that contribute to premature aging, but also by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. Studies have observed the reduction of wrinkles and fine lines and an effect of increasing the elasticity and firmness of the skin. Both in the use of oral supplements and in topical application.
2. Protection against UV damage (photoprotection), by reducing oxidative stress caused by UV radiation. Thus, it helps to prevent pigment spots and skin cancers. The topical application of coenzyme Q10 has an additional role in repairing the damage caused by UV radiation, by improving mitochondrial function and protecting skin cells.
3. Improving the skin’s barrier function. It reduces transepidermal water loss and helps us maintain hydrated and healthy skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties reduce redness and irritation, becoming a useful ingredient for sensitive skin, but also those suffering from acne or rosacea.
4. Uniformity of the skin and reduction of pigment spots in topical application, thus the skin acquires brightness, shine and uniformity. Also, by stimulating cell regeneration and protecting against oxidative damage, it improves the texture of the skin, making it smoother, finer and velvety.
5. Last but not least, coenzyme Q10 proves its usefulness in accelerating the healing of skin lesions, by producing energy and reducing inflammation. So it is a useful supplement especially when the skin goes through trauma: surgical interventions, dermatological procedures or other types of traumatic injuries.
Coenzyme Q10 recommendations
Coenzyme Q10 is recommended both as a dietary supplement and applied to the skin, through cosmetic products (being a valued ingredient in Japanese products). As a dietary supplement, it helps with many of the known skin benefits. Besides its usefulness in the body, in general, helping the heart, brain, lungs, but also preventing chronic diseases, such as diabetes or cancer.
Topical application reduces wrinkles and fine lines, promotes collagen production, maintains elasticity and evens out the skin. It can be introduced both in the morning and in the evening routine.
The recommended dose of coenzyme Q10 (for people over 20 years old) varies between 20-300 mg/day, preferably with a meal rich in fats, for better absorption. Studies recommend taking it in the evening.
It is already an intensely scientifically studied ingredient, which is increasingly finding its place in the recommendations of doctors and pharmacists all over the world. The body naturally produces this essential enzyme for all cells, but with age, its level drops considerably. Thus, we will have less energy in the cells, which obviously contributes to their aging.
To protect the skin, restore brightness, reduce the damage caused by UV rays and promote the production of collagen and elastin, the best-known ingredients are vitamin c, retinol and green tea.
Experts say about coenzyme Q10 that it is the one that promotes better penetration into cells and provides the energy support necessary to fulfill its own roles, thus providing basic support.
How do we choose products containing Coenzyme Q10?
Regarding this ingredient used topically, it helps the layers of the skin against free radicals, responsible for activating enzymes that degrade collagen. In studies, it has proven its wrinkle reduction effect by repairing the damage caused by UV radiation.
The formula is very important, because coenzyme Q10 has low solubility in water and poor penetration into the skin. Thus, it tends to remain in the superficial (corneous) layer, susceptible to being decomposed by light.
How do we choose an effective topical product that contains coenzyme Q10?
– to have a concentration of 0.3-1%
– have opaque packaging or contain stabilizing ingredients (so as not to be degraded by light or heat)
– to be formulated in liposomes or nanoparticles, which allow an efficient transport of molecules in the layers of the skin
– to have a pH of 4.5-5.5 and to be compatible with other active ingredients or excipients in the respective cream.
For one oily skinwe opt for light textures (gels, serums), non-comedogenic. These should also contain other ingredients to reduce sebum (salicylic acid, niacinamide).
A dry skin it requires moisturizing formulas, rich in ceramides, hyaluronic acid, glycerin or peptides, which restore the skin barrier.
Mixed skin can apply different formulas to distinct areas of the face.
For one sensitive skinwe choose gentle formulas, without alcohol, perfume or other irritants. With soothing ingredients (panthenol, aloe vera, chamomile extract) and we test the product on a small area before use.
A mature complexion will opt for intensively moisturizing formulas enriched with retinol, vitamin C and E, peptides.
Recommended food supplements
Food supplements based on coenzyme Q10 are my favorites, because they perform various beneficial functions in the body, beyond improving the appearance of the skin.
CoQ10 Lozengescomes in the form of sublingual tablets, easy to administer, the recommended dose being 1-2 tablets/day (30-60 mg – 1 tablet has a concentration equivalent to 6 kg of salmon!).
I recommend consulting a doctor if you are taking other medications at the same time. Thus, over time, we will help protect the skin from external factors, stimulate collagen production and reduce fine wrinkles. But also in cardiovascular protection, prevention of neurodegeneration, reduction of blood sugar and cholesterol, due to the multiple role it has in the body.
At the same time, I get an additional dose of CoQ10 from #glamUpwhich contains 50 mg of coenzyme Q10, in addition to hydrolyzed collagen, alphalipoic acid, hyaluronic acid, etc. A wonderful combination with the role of improving the hydration and firmness of the skin, with good taste and easy to integrate into the daily routine.
Adding coenzyme Q10 to your daily routine has multiple benefits for heart health, skin health, energy levels, antioxidant protection and neurological health.
Talk to your doctor and choose a suitable form for you, taking a step towards a healthier and more energetic life.
