Cardiovascular diseases take years to develop. Therefore, it is worth taking care of your heart and blood vessels before any problems arise. Don’t let them surprise you!
HEART PROBLEMS EASIER IN SUMMER
High temperatures combined with a high content of water vapor in the atmosphere, intense solar radiation and air pollution cause severe heat stress in the body, excessively burdening the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. They also contribute to a decrease in immunity.
HOW DOES THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM WORK?
The cardiovascular system includes the heart, blood vessels and the lymphatic system, also called the second circulatory system.
Blood vessels, i.e. arteries, veins and capillaries, are responsible for the distribution of blood throughout the body. Arteries start in the heart and end in the capillaries. Veins, on the other hand, start from the connections of capillaries and flow into the heart. Arteries have thick walls with a lot of muscle to maintain adequate blood pressure. Thanks to their flexibility, they can adapt to blood flow depending on the needs of the organs. Veins, on the other hand, have relatively thin walls with a large proportion of the outer membrane, and blood flows slowly in them. The capillary wall is composed mainly of endothelium.
The lymphatic system is an open system of vessels and tubes that carry a clear fluid called lymph. It does not have its own pump like the circulatory system, and lymph moves in the vessels only thanks to the work of muscles. Therefore, lack of movement, sitting with legs down and reduced flow through regional lymph nodes contribute to the development of peripheral edema.
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES – A SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEM
– Cardiovascular disease causes 31% of deaths worldwide, making it the leading cause of death. They are divided into:
– Coronary diseases. When the arteries supplying the heart become blocked, the blood supplying it with oxygen and nutrients stops reaching it. This may result in cardiac arrest and a heart attack. Depending on its location, an infarction may lead to various complications, e.g. heart failure, pericarditis or cardiac arrhythmia, or death.
– Cerebrovascular diseases, and above all, stroke, are caused by arterial occlusion in 80% of cases. Every year, approximately 16 million people around the world suffer a stroke, of which 5.7 million result in death.
– Peripheral artery diseases affect the vessels that supply blood to the legs and arms. Also in this case, vascular obstruction occurs.
– Venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, in which a blood clot blocks the venous trunk. The clot may travel to the heart or lungs. Venous thrombosis affects superficial and deep veins. It occurs in both the lower and upper limbs.
– Acute and chronic venous insufficiency. In the initial stage of the disease, the changes are imperceptible. Then, small varicose veins develop, the so-called spider veins, which over time develop into varicose veins. These lead to swelling, pimples and ulcers, pain in the lower limbs, a feeling of heaviness and muscle cramps.
– Atherosclerosis is the thickening of artery walls and thus reducing their elasticity. The disease is most often associated with the formation of atherosclerotic plaque, which impedes blood circulation in the arteries. It is the main cause of cardiovascular disease.
BASIC RISK FACTORS OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES:
– Smoking. Out of 10 people affected by a heart attack, 4 are smokers. The risk of disease increases in proportion to the amount of nicotine inhaled
– Inappropriate diet based on highly processed products with a lot of meat, high in saturated fats, sugars and salt
– A sedentary lifestyle that leads to stress on the cardiovascular system
– Excessive alcohol consumption and drinking too little water
– Hypertension, which weakens the cardiovascular system
– Diabetes, which contributes to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques
In order for blood to reach the smallest nooks and crannies of the body and perform its functions, it must have the appropriate density and viscosity. Too viscous and thick blood contributes to cardiovascular diseases, especially heart attacks and strokes. It has a significant impact on the formation of varicose veins and spider veins on the legs. Why? It is very difficult for the heart to pump thick, sticky blood throughout the body. The risk of clots closing blood vessels also increases.
HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR CIRCULATORY SYSTEM?
To improve the quality of blood, i.e. reduce its density and viscosity, it is worth using natural ingredients that support the functioning of the cardiovascular system and regularly hydrating the body. Drinking appropriate amounts of water has a positive effect on blood density and viscosity.
– white willow bark extract, sometimes called natural aspirin, helps thin the blood
– garlic reduces blood viscosity and prevents platelets from sticking together, thus preventing the formation of clots. It may also help to slightly lower blood pressure (garlic stimulates the production of nitric oxide, which dilates blood vessels and causes a drop in blood pressure).
– Vitamin E – may reduce the risk of heart attack by one third (at a dose of 100 IU).
– Omega-3 fatty acids help thin the blood and reduce inflammation in the body. They also lower cholesterol levels and improve brain health.
– magnesium – prevents the formation of clots in the arteries, prevents atherosclerosis, protects against high blood pressure, ensures the correct amount of good cholesterol and eliminates inflammation in the body (especially in the endothelium of blood vessels). It protects the proper thickness of blood vessel walls, reduces the risk of heart rhythm disturbances, helps relax and dilate blood vessels, and protects against heart attack.
– B vitamins – help reduce the level of homocysteine - a protein that, in excess, causes damage to the endothelium of blood vessels, thickening of the walls and narrowing of the lumen of coronary and cerebral arteries. Three of them have the strongest effect – vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid. A deficiency in any of them may cause an increase in homocysteine levels. vitamin b12 deficiency may also lead to heart failure.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR BLOOD VESSEL HEALTH?
Excessive exposure to the sun causes not only heart problems, but also blood vessels that burst easily, revealing red or blue spider veins on the skin surface. Most often, it is associated with an insufficient amount of collagen in the vessel walls. By taking appropriately large doses of vitamin c, you can ensure proper collagen production. Vitamin C also prevents the build-up of atherosclerotic plaque in the arteries.
SWELLING AND SWELLING OF LEGS IN SUMMER
Traveling for many hours, often in one position, plus high ambient temperature is a heavy burden on the body. As a result, swelling of the legs occurs, which makes it difficult to move. Lubricating them with a moisturizing and Regenerating Cream can bring significant relief to your legs VeinCare. Its active ingredients include: Boswellia serrata frankincense resin, vitis vinifera (vine) leaf extract, Siegesbeckia Orientalis extract reduce their heaviness, improve the condition of blood vessels and reduce the visibility of appearing spider veins.
coenzyme q10 AND THE HEART
For me, as a doctor, coenzyme Q10 plays the most important role in cardiovascular prevention. This substance is found in every cell of the body, acting as a spark that triggers energy production in mitochondria (tiny “power plants” that produce cellular energy). All organs, especially the heart and brain, need a constant supply of coenzyme Q10 to function properly. The same applies to all the approximately 10,000 billion cells that make up the body. Coenzyme Q10 is a very strong antioxidant. It comes into action when vitamin C reserves run out and also protects vitamin e. Supplementation with coenzyme Q10 is recommended to anyone taking medications that lower its level (e.g. medications to lower cholesterol).
*ATTENTION! taking large doses of vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids while taking anticoagulant drugs, especially Warfin and Acenocumarol, may cause excessive blood thinning. Before starting supplementation, it is recommended to consult a doctor
