D-drops - natural solution for vitamin D deficiency

Basically, we think that we have enough vitamin D because there are plenty of sun. But the latest research suggests that supplementation is often necessary and we do not have enough vitamin D. Nearly 50% of Europe's population has insufficient supply of vitamin D even in the sunny months. This percentage may grow during the winter and up to 70% -80%.

In a study conducted in the summer of 2011 on a group of blood donors between 20 and 60 years and active seniors who regularly participate in sports, the results showed that 63% of persons over 43 years of age has a vitamin D deficiency, while the percentage in young adults is 41%. These results are stunning because the research was done in the summer, with people who are healthy and / or participate in outdoor sports. Thus we can easily imagine what would be the results in less active people or people with health problems. Therefore, vitamin D supplementation is necessary even in spring and summer.

Can we synthesize enough vitamin D ourselves?
The first thing you think of when vitamin D is mentioned is that it is needed for infants and the elderly population for the construction and health of the bone . However, studies in recent years suggest that vitamin D has a much more complex and more important role in the body than was previously thought. Today we also know that despite the fact that our body can only synthesize vitamin D with the help of UVB rays, lack of vitamin D has become a widespread problem. And all this due to the climate and our way of life, people who live in the northern hemisphere are simply not sufficiently exposed to sunlight to synthesize sufficient amounts of vitamin D. In winter, the sun is not much, in the summer we have to avoid it and a lot of people today spend less time outdoors than 100 years ago. For example, sunscreens with SPF 8 or higher can reduce the production of vitamin D by more than 90%.

The creation of vitamin D is often impaired by long-term intake of various drugs (anti-inflammatory steroid medicines like those for lowering cholesterol). With age, the ability to make vitamin D further decreases, while eating barely provide a small part of the daily requirement.

The importance of vitamin D
Several medical organizations, including the National Health Institute (NIH) at Harvard University supports the idea of increasing the recommended daily dose of vitamin D for at least 30-60%. Based on a large test population and review of data obtained in the past few years, we can conclude that vitamin D is a kind of substance essential for all. It participates not only in building and maintaining healthy bones and teeth, but also contributes to reducing the risk of developing several types of cancer (colon, breast), acts protectively in both types of diabetes, and can beneficially affect a woman's hormonal health and fertility. It is extremely important during pregnancy and breastfeeding and may help protect against subsequent development of neurological and psychiatric disorders (eg, schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, dementia, Parkinson's disease, autism, Alzheimer's disease, depression, postpartum depression)

In short, taking vitamin D can greatly contribute to the preservation of health. Contrary to current opinion an overdose of vitamin D is very difficult, because it performs only in the situation od continuous (months) taking very high doses (10 000 IU). Although the requirement for vitamin D varies depending on the age and health, its deficiency increases the risk of disease in each case. As a child is of the utmost importance for building bones, normal muscle function, and later an adequate intake of vitamin D may reduce the risk of cardiovascular, autoimmune diseases and inflammation. In later life, helps prevent bone loss, and preservation of muscle strength and mental freshness, and during pregnancy - when the vitamin D deficiency is very common - helps the health of the mother and the fetus, and later may affect the development and health of the child. In case of deficiency increase the risk of heart attack by 2.5 times and also blood pressure is growing. Obese people have a greater need for vitamin D than the average, but also adequate intake of vitamin D in their case had a positive effect on insulin resistance.
